We wear orange on the trail during hunting season, but should we wear it all the time just to be safe and visible?

Do you try to be visible on the trail when you hike? No matter what season it is?

They say this is a good idea. If you're wearing dark colors and need to be rescued from a boulder field, it's almost impossible to see you.

I have so much black clothing. I wear a lot of athletic type clothing hiking and running and most of the brands just make stuff in black. A lot of it is compression clothing so I reckon they feel black makes look better.

But brighter colors might be the best option.

I can find brighter shirts and socks!

My hiking backpack is bright orange. I most always have it with me, and I figure it helps make me more visible.

That's always a good idea, too. I always for some reason get the most forest green pack I can get haha

I don't know about wearing orange all the time, but I could see the wisdom of having something lightweight and bright colored in your pack that you could put on or deploy for visibility if you got injured or needed rescue. I guess the trouble is that if you fell or were unconscious you might not be able to put it on.

I've thought about one of those emergency beacons like a Garmin InReach or similar. I had a nasty fall going up a boulder-filled creek bed just south of the powerline cut near Stoneface. I just got all skinned up on one leg when I stepped on an unstable rock, but it could have been a broken leg. I don't know if there was any cell signal in that spot or not. I did have orange on that day because it was deer season, but where I was at it might have taken awhile for anybody to come close enough to see or hear me.

I try to have some kind of bright colored clothing or my backpack that I carry is pretty bright. I figured that would make a person aware I'm not a critter. :-)

That's not a bad idea!

I feel the same way with cycling. Everyone wears black but I want my clothing to be bright and colorful, so drivers notice me sooner!
