Tunnel Hill State Trail is a 50+ mile rail trail in Southern Illinois.
While it's mainly used by cyclists, hikers and runners also used it too. Some of it goes through the Shawnee National Forest but most of it has private property on each side making it difficult to through hike unless you put in longer miles.
It's perfect for section hiking, though.
There is a 500+ foot tunnel you go through, multiple trestles you walk across, a snack shop, and plenty of nature to enjoy.
I definitely recommend it.
