Imagine if they all survived to adulthood! It would be a plague of biblical proportions. About the closest I have seen to that was in July 2019. I had taken the boys camping at Trail of Tears State Forest. There had been flooding for an extended period and the Mississippi had remained high resulting in a lot of flooded fields. The frogs took advantage of those conditions to do a breeding marathon. We went to the waterfall area at the north side of Fountain Bluff. There were frogs of all species and sizes everywhere you looked. You had to watch where you stepped to avoid stepping on them. I've never seen so many frogs at one time before or since
Me too and I wonder if they go blind at some point.Frog in a cave. It was in the entrance area, but I've seen them thousands of feet back in caves.
I'm guessing it's a Pickerel Frog?Frog in a cave. It was in the entrance area, but I've seen them thousands of feet back in caves.
It would seem they would have a hard time finding food if they were back in the cave far enough that there was truly no light. Maybe they only stay deep in the cave for a time and venture out to find food.Me too and I wonder if they go blind at some point.
They say two weeks in cave darkness will make humans go completely blind. I'm sure it's less for those little frog eyes!!
