Rock Cave Nature Preserve Trailhead near Altamont, Illinois, taken 18 Aug 2021. I think this sign has been replaced.

Cape LaCroix Bluffs Trail, Cape LaCroix Bluffs Conservation Area, near Scott City, Missouri, taken on 16 August 2024. Although the area near the parking lot was nicely mowed, unfortunately once past the railroad tracks the trail leading to the bluffs was so weedy and overgrown I turned back. I was wearing shorts and it looked like a chigger and tick haven. I hope to go back some time in winter or spring before everything gets so overgrown. This set of bluffs marks the point just south of Cape Girardeau where the Mississippi River made a sharp bend to the west in the distant past before it eventually broke through and was diverted into its present course through the Thebes Gap.
