Is DIY Bike Repair Hurting Local Bike Shops?

DIY bike repair allows you to fix things yourself, which can be more cost-effective than taking it to a bike shop.

But this also hurts the business of local bike shops.

It's safe to say that bike shops receive far more repair work than they do from selling new bikes. It's often more cost-effective to repair a bike than to buy a new one.

Do you think we should take our bikes to local bike shops more to support the shop than to try and repair them ourselves?

Well, it actually depends on the kind of issues that needs to be fixed. If it's something very serious, I would always take the bike to local bike shop in order to support them but if it's something minor, I'll definitely fix it myself.

Even though we have free resources available online, especially tutorials on Youtube, not everyone can follow the instructions to repair the bike themselves. For instance, I once tried to set up newly bought fold-able by watching youtube tutorial but I could do it.

You're absolutely right about that. I think watching a YouTube video for the first time and trying to do it immediately wouldn't really work out well.

Over the years of watching Alex Bizdustry YouTube EV channel, I've picked up so much knowledge on how to assemble just about any kind of bike.
