Any recommendations for a lightweight day pack that doesn’t aggravate the neck? I have an Eddie Bauer day back that is sat for me.

Definitely get something with a hip belt. Adjust your backpack to rest on your hip so that your back, shoulders, and neck isn't getting a beating from it.

Your hips should be doing most of the work carrying your pack.

Try the Osprey Daylite or Deuter Speed Lite — light, well-balanced, and comfy straps. Chest and waist straps help a lot with neck strain.
