Is the activity of downhill mountain biking giving the entire mountain biking community a bad name?

Some feel that the downhill community is elitist, and they make the whole community and niche of MTB look bad as a whole.

How do you feel about this? Are just a few people causing a whole community to look bad, or is it more than that?
