Why Are Roadies So Often Seen as Elitist?

I road bike.

I don't feel like I'm an elitist, personally.

However, I have seen other road cyclists who somewhat act that way, especially to other cyclists who are not at their skill or racing level. Do you think this is the sole reason why people often perceive road cyclists as elitists? Or do you feel there is another reason behind it?

What could we do as a community to not look like elitists in your opinion?
