The Cosmic Ashtray, Utah. The bowl is the size of a professional football stadium. It is a 11 mile loop, after visiting the Ashtray you return via a slot canyon.cosmic ashtray.webp

I think Arrowhead Arch is the best arch in Indiana! It's on private property though, so a visit involves some trespassing.3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_2217.jpg
There's no purple paint or "no trespassing" signs, and no one lives anywhere near it. It's actually a double arch, the lower opening goes all the way through the cliff.3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_2222.jpg

Reminds me of Buzzard Roost, Arkansas. It has, among other special areas, two arches, this look like the smaller of the two.

Buzzard Roost is a 3.5 mile out and back trail. Very unique and the area is full of special areas.

This is the smaller

This is the larger, look hard and you can see the person on top.

Pete's cave in Indiana is a unique sandstone rock shelter/ cave right outside the edge of Hoosier National Forest, there's a trail to it but it is on private property .3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_1202.jpg
There are numerous old rock carvings in the shelter, which I think is the biggest on Indiana. 3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_1196.jpg3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_1195.jpg3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_1192.jpg
The cave is more of a slot canyon, it's still very nice!3ed5c04a-697f-4a72-b257-dd0fc73cc00a-1_all_1207.jpg

Can you get to it on public without accessing the trail on private?
You can get to 100' from it on a trail in HNF. The trail keeps going onto private property, the bluff is probably 100' feet from the boundary. Alltrails says it's in HNF, but I've meet the owner and he says it's not.

Was the owner welcoming of you visiting it?

We have a few things like that here. One being the Haskins, which most people call Fist of God. The formation is on private, right on the edge of Shawnee.

The owner doesn't live there, didn't say people could hike there but he didn't say they couldn't either. I don't think he cares but he's not giving permission. I've been wanting to see the Fist of God, you hike in from Lake Glendale?

You can get close to it. You start from Rock Road "behind" Dixon.

There was a lot of discussion about whether or not Pete's Cave is in HNF at the EMG meeting tonight. Landowner maintains that maps are incorrect and it is his property. Surveys have been unable to prove him wrong, the rock shelter and sandstone cave seem to be private property.

There are people who think Bork Falls is on someone's property and that the state has mis-surveyed it!

Saltshake Rock is very close to HNF, OnX shows it being on the edge. Whoever owns it doesn't mark the boundary, no purple paint or signs.
