We are two women on a journey to visit all 135 Illinois Department of Natural Resources State Parks across Illinois. The idea for this project came during the pandemic, when we found that the scenery of the natural areas of our state brought us solace in an overwhelming time. We hope to inspire others to get out and enjoy the natural areas that can be found all over the state, for the improvement of their mental and physical well being.
Each trip to a state park ends with a visit to a brewery, winery, or distillery. We want to help support the communities and small businesses around the park, as well as encourage people to spend time somewhere they may not have thought to go before.
Since starting this journey in August 2021, we have been to 64 properties, visited 55 counties, been on TV and in the newspaper, interviewed on podcasts, visited Springfield to present to state officials, saw some amazing views, met some great people (both in person and virtually), sipped on countless beers, wines and whiskeys from small businesses, and most of all, have seen ourselves and our friendship grow tremendously.
