Is walking during a trail run acceptable of "not real running"?

I'll be honest, I "fast hike" a lot of my trail runs. I'm just not quite as good as those who can pretty much run the entire time.

That's why it took me 4+ hours to do a half-marathon where a lot of people were doing it in less than 2 hours.

But is it actually trail running or are people like me not really trail runners yet?

Let's discuss and debate the issue here! :)

Trail running is hard! If you're going to run 31.5 miles you'd better walk all the uphill, run the flats and downhill. My best time at the Shawnee hills 50k was 6 hours and 56 minutes, my best 50k time was 5 hours 40 minutes. I walked some in both those races, some people don't have to. I haven't run the Shawnee Hills half, my best time at the Red Cedar half was 2 hours 9 minutes. I only walked 1 uphill that race.
