As a day pack I use an old Camel Back hydration pack after having thrown the bladder away(at least 15 years old). I have also used it for short Backpack trips. Then have a Zpack backpack. The one thing I splurged on-very light weight and has proven dependable. Even the ZPack is low capacity. You can't over pack if you don't have the capacity. .
