I'm from southeast Illinois. Shawnee is the most frequent go-to for hiking for my wife and I, although we also take the opportunity to explore a bit farther away. I've been enjoying the Shawnee for almost 60 years but we started getting on the trail more frequently and Shawnee more often when the Covid shutdowns closed the parks.
Although I enjoy short backpacking trips, mostly we are day hikers, usually tent camping

I'm from northern Illinois and the Shawnee rescued me during COVID when everything shut down. That place is amazing!
