In general, if I hate a trail it is usually my falt because my expectations were to high after I researched it, and felt it was highly overrated or misrepresented after the fact. Thankfully that is not common. Generally on a planned trip I will do 30 -50 trails and 75 -120 miles. So having one bust on a trip is not bad.
One I just did on my last trip, it was the "Airplane Rock and Chapel Cave Loop", in Ohio, it was 4.5 miles of which 3 miles was gravel road! No mention of it in the reviews or trail description! After "hiking" the gravel road for 2 miles I came to the first special scenic area, the airplane rock, boy was it underwhelming! The second destination was well worth visiting, Chapel Cave, but I found out afterwards, I could of hiked 1 mile out and back to have seen it from a different trailhead. So, this 4.5 mile loop will not see my shadow again.
