    Marathons

I ran the Tunnel Hill Marathon last year, it counts as a trail run. It was 2 out and backs stuck together so you turned around a couple miles north of the tunnel. It was a lot of fun to run with all the 100 mile runners and see them finishing their races.

    Most recent waterfall photos!

I know, right? Caves are going to get explored. Cave closures only keep out cavers, spelunkers don't care.

Yep, it's gated so you have to fill out permits and get a key.

    Injuries

Trail running is tricky, you've got a higher risk of injury than road running. I only ever run 30-40% of my miles on trails, the faster the race the less trail miles. They say strength training is good for injury prevention?

    Heights

The devil's in the details. I do get vertigo around a +100' drop!

What got you into trail running?

Yep, my 'hiking journey' hit a few bumps when covid started! I had been running enough that I could run 3 miles without stopping for a while, but the pandemic was when I started running over 10 miles a week. It's been great!

    Hydration Pack vs. Hydration Vest

I use a hydration bladder when I'm running. I rinse it out, fill it with water and keep it in the refrigerator when I'm not using it. I like to drink soda when I'm hiking.

What got you into trail running?

I started running regularly during Covid, I was bored and a lot of hiking trails were closed. I really enjoyed it and have found that exercising every day helps me focus.

    Wearing orange all the time

They say this is a good idea. If you're wearing dark colors and need to be rescued from a boulder field, it's almost impossible to see you.

    Trail Running Race

I don't know if I'll see you there, some runners start at 6, some at 7, and I think the half marathon starts at 8. A lot of people stay at camp O Friday and Saturday night. I think there's a breakfast Sunday morning. I stay at the hotel 7 in Vienna for the AC and the McDonald's. A lot of...

The Shawnee Hills trail races will be 8/23 this year, they're a great way to experience the SNF. You get to hike around while people feed you snacks and cheer for you. Is anyone signing up this year? Of all the trail races I've run, this is my favorite. I'll be there.

Do you look for old things in the woods?

The description says there's 1' of airspace, it didn't look like 1'.

Do you look for old things in the woods?

Here's the man made entrance to Carnes Mill in HNF, it's the remnants of a Mill built on a cut-off in a meander of the Blue River. Half of if is a natural cave and half is man-made.
