How often do you overnight hike?

Yes, back in the 50’s three guys lost control on the curve, and fell into the slot canyon and got wedged in there, killed all three. They never retrieved the car.

Aside from hiking...what else do you get into?

I kayak, road bike, have done most of the Katy trail, rail to trail in Missouri. Some rail to trail in Kansas. Have done some wild cave tours - but not the real thing. My wife loves fishing so we trout fish in the trout parks in Missouri which means we camp in our camping trailer.

    Wildlife Encounters

In twenty years I have only seen one bear in the wild and he was running from me - he saw me first. I have seen mountain goats a couple times. I had one wolf pass about 30 yards in front of me on a trail once. Other than that just your normal deer, etc.

    Cameras and video cameras

No Geek here:) I still use a 2nd generation Iphone se. I suspect that make me a minority. But, It serves my purpose. I generally take 100's of pics when out for a week. I preload all my trails from Alltrails prior to the trip and track and record my progress all day. Generally battery life...

Do you hate any hiking trails at all?

In general, if I hate a trail it is usually my falt because my expectations were to high after I researched it, and felt it was highly overrated or misrepresented after the fact. Thankfully that is not common. Generally on a planned trip I will do 30 -50 trails and 75 -120 miles. So having...

    Trekking Poles

I use one only and all the time. I use it to navigate rough terrain, largely rocks, roots and streams. It has saved me from several falls over the years. Using only one. It keeps me pretty free to use my camera which is in a pouch on my chest strap. I will take hundreds of photos when I...
