We need a Professional Hiking League

Yeah. It would be a hard sport to make without it turning into trail running. Then it wouldn't be hiking anymore.

    Weight reduction of your pack/gear

Your best advice above is "be creative"! So many people feel they need to buy a $$$ piece of gear because it's ultralightweight. But they can often go to the Dollar Store and get an alternative which weighs the same but is $ instead.

    Bear spray or pepper spray

Pigs would make me nervous because they can get pretty mean. We saw a bunch of them at Land Between the Lakes on the Tennessee side this past spring. You're right, though. Ticks are probably the worst predators out there! They can give you crippling diseases when just one bite. Ever heard...

Day Hiking Dutchman Lake (Shawnee National Forest)

For sure. And I'm definitely here to answer any questions or help you out a long the way :) There are a lot of trails over there. Many are considered "illegal" made the horse folks, but they're already established and in good shape. IMO, Forest Service should designate them. Even when the...

    Fall

I need to get up to Michigan. It's so close to me. I love summer but if we can have a true fall with steady cooling temperatures and real fall colors, then that's when I really like fall. Lately it just seems like we go from hot summer to cold winter with maybe a few days of colors if we don't...

    Bear spray or pepper spray

Do any of your always carry some sort of defense spray such as bear spray or pepper spray? Whether or not there are potentially hazardous wildlife present, hazardous humans are always a possibility. Do you think it's important to arm yourself with defense spray just in case?

    Compression Calve Sleeves

I've seen many trail runners wear compression sleeves on their calves. I've also seen many hikers and backpackers who do it as well. Are you one of them? If yes, what does it do for you? Also, what brand do you prefer and why?

    Weight reduction of your pack/gear

How often do you try to reduce the weight in your hiking backpack, gear, and even clothing? It is said that a lighter load will help make hiking easier and less painful. Do you try to do this? Do you take stuff out? Wear lighter or even less clothing? Get lighter footwear? Or has weight never...

Completed my first trail running half-marathon.

Completed the Shawnee Hills Races Half-Marathon. 4 hours and 18 minutes. I predicted 7 to 8 hours. I shocked myself. I'm pretty worn out and sore today (the day after), but I can't wait to do another trail half-marathon. I've got bug now. Next year, I'm going for the 50K.

    Hiking Clubs

Nice. Why do they call themselves hidden hikers?

    Falling

I haven't fell yet at all trail running. I've fallen hiking plenty of times, though.

    Hiking Clubs

I like group hikes if it's with the right group. Usually, groups of known friends is the right group. It's often hard to hike with strangers.

    Sick on the trail

They make medicine for that, don't they? Have you ever tried it? You might be suffering from sinus issues from all the pollen and stuff in the air. I'd take an antihistamine overnight before your hike to see if that works. That's what I do and it's really helped me out.

We need a Professional Hiking League

That would kind of be me. I follow Tour de France but just the quick highlights. I couldn't sit there and watch the whole thing. I'd much rather ride the bike than watch people ride LOL
