What do you carry in your backpack?

I don't hike much in the summer, but I run all year long. A summer trail run typically takes 1L of fluids per 10 miles. I drink water when I'm running because I'm afraid to put sugar in the hydration bladder. That's right around a cup per mile!

What do you carry in your backpack?

I bring Dr. Pepper and snacks, I don't need water for the day hikes that I do. If I'm doing a longer hike I bring a bottle of water too.

What natural wonders have you hiked that you rate as one of the best in state?

I think Arrowhead Arch is the best arch in Indiana! It's on private property though, so a visit involves some trespassing. There's no purple paint or "no trespassing" signs, and no one lives anywhere near it. It's actually a double arch, the lower opening goes all the way through the cliff.

I think it's the exposure, but I'm not sure. It didn't look too bad in the video I watched!

Do arches in caves count? If they do, Indiana has 1000s of arches Crystal arch (it's not very big) Crystal covered arch (also very small) This one was big enough to walk across! Arch in a cave entrance

Day Hiking Bulge Hole waterfall hike

I've been wanting to do this hike for years now! I thought it would be a harder hike than it turned out to be, it was a lot of fun. I'm definitely coming back here to hike more.

    Trekking Poles

I use 1 trekking pole for hiking in the Midwest, 2 when I hike in the mountains. I use 2 trekking poles for trail runs over 14 miles long. I use cheap Wal-Mart poles for hiking and black diamond poles for running.

    Snacks

GU energy gels are good! The caramel ones are good during the summer and the chocolate in the winter. I think I ate around 15-20 of them at the Shawnee Hills Trail Races this year!

Longs Peak is near Denver, Co. The Keyhole route is the easiest way to get to the top of the mountain, which was a great experience!
